Don’t

  • Throw away the manual

One of the first things you should do once you have unpackaged your quadcopter is read your instruction manual from cover to cover.

This will give you all of the basic information that you’ll need to operate and fly your new gadget safely as different models have different start up procedures.

For example, if you have a GPS quadcopter, the correct start up procedure will ensure that it has connected to the necessary Wi-Fi it requires to fly.

  • Head for a populated area

One of the most important things you must know when flying your quadcopter is where you can and cannot fly your device.

When it comes to flying quadcopters in Australia, you cannot fly a device in any populated area, near schools, sporting stadiums or within 3 miles of an airport.

In addition, you must not fly your drone in close proximity to an area where an emergency operation is being conducted.

Find a wide, open space that doesn’t contain too many trees, and start your maiden flight from there.

Do

  • Get used to all controls

You might think that flying a quadcopter is easy but you will soon realise that this is not the case!

This is why it is always recommend that you should become familiar with the flight controls and get used to how sensitive they are and what pressure they require etc.

Once you have mastered up and down, left and right, try to do more complicated flight patterns such as circling and figures of eight.

These types of manoeuvres will help you gain mastery over the controls that will help you to protect your quadcopter over time.

  • Relax!

The whole point of having a quadcopter is to have fun experiences! If an accident happens, it happens so don’t stress about it.

Once you have taken the necessary steps to ensure that you don’t destroy your quadcopter on its first outing, you can build on your skills and make sure that you have many hours of fun with your new toy!
