More and more people are getting into the wonderful world of drone flying and, as a result, we are seeing a whole new wave of amazing HD photos and video footage that’s captured by cameras attached to these drones in Australia and beyond.
If you are a drone enthusiast who likes to capture footage from the unique perspective that only a drone can offer, there are tips you can follow to help up your drone material game.
Read on to find out more!
1. Practice your flying
This might seem obvious but it really is one of the best ways to improve the standard of footage that can be got. Flying a drone might seem easy at first but it can be a tricky skill to master.
Shaky or uneven flight lines will play havoc with the quality of footage that your drone camera captures. This is why it is vital that you practice to make sure that you can fly your drone as skilfully as possible.
2. Slow and steady
When you begin to film footage with your drone, take care to film your shots in long, slow and steady movements.
If you jerk your drone around from side to side or fly too fast, the footage you record will be next to useless as it will be constantly switching speeds and angles, which doesn’t make for easy viewing!
3. Shoot for 10 seconds longer than you need
When you’re successful in getting a shot that you’ve wanted, don’t stop recording straight away. Give yourself at least 10 seconds after you have captured the shot as it will give you a little extra material to play around with.
This additional footage can be used to transition into your next shot, create a mood or ambience or create a level of anticipation for your next shot.
4. Camera settings
Your drone camera has plenty of settings that can help you achieve some really fantastic effects when you use them. By consulting the manual that accompanies your drone, you can learn what all the different settings can mean for your recordings. Play around with these settings and see which suits you and your style the best.
5. Take a course
With the rising popularity of drone photography and filmography, you can also enrol on an aerial photography or videography course.
These detailed courses can teach you how to fly your drone and capture the perfect shots – a sure-fire way to improve your skills.
Give these tips a go and we’re sure you’ll see a significant improvement in your shots and footage. You can thank us later!
